dc.description.abstract | During the 1950s and 1960s Australian foreign policy was focused on ensuring the presence of the United States in South East Asia and the consequent protection of Australia under the ANZUS Treaty. For the Australian Labor Party between 1960 and 1967 the fundamental test of its readiness for government was the positions it took on issues relating to the Alliance. This thesis sheds light on the ALP’s vision for the Alliance during the period. | en_AU |
