This work is the unpublished third volume of the "Doctor in Literature" series. Volumes 1 and 2 can be found at http://opac.library.usyd.edu.au/record=b3385842~S4en_AU
This book is the third of four volumes in the series The Doctor in Literature. Like the first two,1, 2 it is intended to serve as an indexed, annotated anthology and to bring together a total of some 1500 extracts from approximately 600 works of fiction where medical doctors appear as major or minor characters. The citations in volume 3 relate to the choice of medicine as a career, and the doctor’s decision to confine his activities to specific areas. This volume also concerns itself with the perceptions (positive or negative) of different specialties among other members of the profession and among the general public.en_AU
