Local public transport is not simply a mere matter of actual travel operations, but organisational issues are increasingly playing a significant role in an ever more difficult environment. What tasks must and can the public authorities still perform and what tasks can others do better? And how does one ensure that the interests of the public are preserved during all this privatisation? In this sense, local public transport is also and in particular a question of the right form of organisation. In Frankfurt, a strong and large organisation has been developed, which, on the one hand, ensures that the competencies of the private sector are incorporated and, at the same time, represents and implements the interests of the public (= citizens and government). An exciting field of work – perhaps also for others?en
