Experimental verification of dose enhancement effects in a lung phantom from inline magnetic fields.

Oborn, B; Gargett, MA; Causer, TJ; Alnaghy, SJ; Hardcastle, N; Metcalfe, PE; Keall, P
Published 2017-12-01
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: To present experimental evidence of lung dose enhancement effects caused by strong inline magnetic fields. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A permanent magnet device was utilised to generate 0.95T-1.2T magnetic ...

A comparison of gantry-mounted x-ray-based real-time target tracking methods.

Montanaro, T; Nguyen, DT; Keall, P; Booth, J; Caillet, V; Eade, T; Hadad, C; Shieh, CC
Published 2018-03-01
PURPOSE: Most modern radiotherapy machines are built with a 2D kV imaging system. Combining this imaging system with a 2D-3D inference method would allow for a ready-made option for real-time 3D tumor tracking. This work ...

Technical Note: Real-time image-guided adaptive radiotherapy of a rigid target for a prototype fixed beam radiotherapy system.

Liu, P; Nguyen, DT; Feain, I; O'Brien, R; Keall, P; Booth, JT
Published 2018-10-01
PURPOSE: Fixed beam radiotherapy systems utilize couch movement and rotation instead of gantry rotation in order to simplify linear accelerator design. We investigate the ability to deliver fixed beam treatments with the ...

Passive magnetic shielding in MRI-Linac systems.

Whelan, B; Kolling, S; Oborn, BM; Keall, P
Published 2018-03-01
Passive magnetic shielding refers to the use of ferromagnetic materials to redirect magnetic field lines away from vulnerable regions. An application of particular interest to the medical physics community is shielding in ...

Investigation of the XCAT phantom as a validation tool in cardiac MRI tracking algorithms.

Lowther, N; Ipsen, S; Marsh, S; Blanck, O; Keall, P
Published 2018-01-01
PURPOSE: To describe our magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) simulated implementation of the 4D digital extended cardio torso (XCAT) phantom to validate our previously developed cardiac tracking techniques. Real-time tracking ...

An interdimensional correlation framework for real-time estimation of six degree of freedom target motion using a single x-ray imager during radiotherapy.

Nguyen, DT; Bertholet, J; Kim, JH; O'Brien, R; Booth, JT; Poulsen, PR; Keall, P
Published 2017-12-01
Increasing evidence suggests that intrafraction tumour motion monitoring needs to include both 3D translations and 3D rotations. Presently, methods to estimate the rotation motion require the 3D translation of the target ...

The first clinical implementation of real-time image-guided adaptive radiotherapy using a standard linear accelerator.

Keall, P; Nguyen, DT; O'Brien, R; Caillet, V; Hewson, E; Poulsen, PR; Bromley, R; Bell, L; Eade, T; Kneebone, A; Martin, J; Booth, JT
Published 2018-04-01
PURPOSE: Until now, real-time image guided adaptive radiation therapy (IGART) has been the domain of dedicated cancer radiotherapy systems. The purpose of this study was to clinically implement and investigate real-time ...

Investigating multi-leaf collimator tracking in stereotactic arrhythmic radioablation (STAR) treatments for atrial fibrillation.

Lydiard, S; Caillet, V; Ipsen, S; O'Brien, R; Blanck, O; Poulsen, PR; Booth, J; Keall, P
Published 2018-09-01
Stereotactic arrhythmia radioablation (STAR) is an emerging treatment option for atrial fibrillation (AF). However, it faces possibly the most challenging motion compensation scenario: both respiratory and cardiac motion. ...
