    • Premature detonation of an ammonium nitrate emulsion in reactive ground

Priyananda, Pramith; Djerdjev, Alexander; Gore, Jeff; Neto, Chiara; Beattie, James; Hawkett, Brian
      Published 2015
When ammonium nitrate emulsions are used in blast holes containing pyrite, they can exothermally react with pyrite, causing the emulsion to intensively heat and detonate prematurely. Such premature detonations can inflict ...

    • Enhancing Spontaneous Droplet Motion on Structured Surfaces with Tailored Wedge Design

Wang, Zhongzheng; Owais, Ahmed; Neto, Chiara; Pereira, Jean-Michel; Gan, Yixiang
      Published 2020
Spontaneous liquid transport has a wide variety of applications, including fog harvesting, microfluidics, and water-oil separation. Understanding of the droplet movement dynamics on structured surfaces is essential ...

    • Life and death of liquid-infused surfaces: a review on the choice, analysis and fate of the infused liquid layer

Peppou-Chapman, Sam; Hong, Jun Ki; Waterhouse, Anna; Neto, Chiara
      Published 2020
Liquid-infused surfaces (or lubricant-infused surfaces) (LIS) are a new class of functional materials introduced in 2011. Their exceptional properties have earned them a place at the forefront of many fields including ...

    • Micron-sized polystyrene particles by surfactant-free emulsion polymerization in air: synthesis and mechanism

Telford, Andrew; Pham, Binh; Neto, Chiara; Hawkett, Brian
      Published 2013
In this study, we propose an alternative method to produce high solids, micrometer-sized polystyrene (PS) latexes with narrow size distribution, based on the use of large amounts of polymerization initiator and allowing ...

    • Receding Contact Line Motion on Nanopatterned and Micropatterned Polymer Surfaces

Gao, Nan; Chiu, Ming; Neto, Chiara
      Published 2017
Surface properties such as topography and chemistry affect the motion of the three-phase contact line (solid/liquid/air), which in turn affects the contact angle of a liquid moving on a solid surface. In this work, the ...
