This dataset includes data from transparency reports from the pharmaceutical industry from 2013-2022 of payments to patient groups. Since 2013, companies which are members of Medicines Australia (the peak body for the prescription pharmaceutical industry in Australia) have been required by the Medicines Australia Code of Conduct to disclose any financial and significant non-financial support provided to patient groups. These reports are published on the Medicines Australia website for a period of three years and include information on the recipient patient group, a brief description of the support provided, and the monetary value of the sponsorship.en

The information in the database comes from reports provided by the pharmaceutical industry and published on the Medicines Australia website. Details from these reports were cross-referenced with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission’s charity register. Additional transparency reports were identified for seven pharmaceutical companies on their own websites, and the source of the data has been noted in the database. Further details of methods are provided in the notes file, including details of changes to patient group and pharmaceutical company names that we have made in the process of cleaning the data.en
