In her inaugural professorial lecture at the University of Melbourne in October 1993, Professor Sally Walker drew attention to the intimidating array of laws that modern media lawyers are expected to be on top of ("Regulating the Media: Reputation, Truth and Privacy" (1994) 19 MULR 729 at 730-1). Recent developments - in particular, the convergence of publishing and broadcasting with computing and telecommunications - have resulted in new forms of media, and inevitably, telecommunications and "Internet law" have acquired a substantial media law dimension. The task of the practising media lawyer, and the teacher of media law, is not getting any easier, one rider being the publication of Walker’s comprehensive new resource: Media Law: Commentary and Materials.en
