| dc.description.abstract | This thesis investigates the effectiveness of a peer-assisted learning (PAL) approach, termed MultiPAL, for teaching single-case research design (SCRD) to students unfamiliar with this methodology. SCRD, predominantly used in psychology, education, and health disciplines, lacks established teaching strategies despite its widespread application. MultiPAL, introduced here, employs multiple peer tutors per tutee, merging peer tutoring with cooperative learning to potentially improve learning outcomes. Guided by the design-based research framework, the research focuses on how preservice teachers grasp SCRD and the reciprocal benefits of MultiPAL for both tutees and tutors. Two studies underpin this work: The first analysed essays from students to identify understanding patterns and confusions about SCRD, highlighting key areas for pedagogical enhancement. The second study applied MultiPAL in a practical setting with teaching major students, assessing its effectiveness through video-recorded sessions and content analysis. The results from both studies suggest that MultiPAL holds promise for enriching SCRD learning, indicating improvements in both comprehension and application. However, further research is needed to refine MultiPAL and verify its effectiveness. This research not only contributes to the methodology of teaching SCRD but also provides insights into the broader implications of incorporating interactive, technology-supported collaborative learning into educational design, enhancing the overall quality and engagement of learning experiences in SCRD education. | en |
