| dc.description.abstract | Despite the increasing emphasis on responsible innovation, there is a noticeable dearth of empirical research underpinned by validated measures, hindering the substantial advancement of the responsible innovation literature. On this ground, this thesis comprises three interconnected articles- First, by synthesizing the four behavioral characteristics integral to responsible innovation, this study introduces a rigorously constructed and empirically validated responsible innovation scale. This endeavor not only establishes the theoretical underpinnings of the responsible innovation construct but also confers legitimacy as a distinct and substantiated field of scholarly inquiry. Secondly, empirical validation underscores that firms emerging from post-disaster contexts are inclined to adopt responsible innovation as a proactive and resilient strategy. Particularly noteworthy is the heightened response observed among enterprises led by female and educated entrepreneurs. This empirical insight addresses a significant gap in the literature and contributes substantially to the understanding of how the repercussions of the escalating occurrences of catastrophic industrial disasters can be responded to with responsible innovation. Lastly, the thesis skillfully navigates uncharted empirical territory by investigating the intricate interplay between responsible innovation and sustainable performance. By elucidating this nuanced relationship, the dissertation not only resolves the longstanding debate regarding the perceived burden of responsible innovation on resource-constrained SMEs but also pioneers a groundbreaking approach. This revelation harmonizes cost efficiency with responsible innovation, presenting a strategic framework that empowers even the most resource-constrained SMEs to achieve favorable outcomes across social, environmental, and economic indicators. | en |
