The purpose of this workshop was to critically examine the underlying policy objectives with respect to safety, the environment, and industry development, to ensure the design of 'fit for purpose' regulation and the appropriate targeting of risks. The workshop explored the risks that arise in five common or emerging scenarios at lithium ion battery end of life: (i) the status quo; (ii) mixed consumer batteries; (iii) large batteries; (iv) damaged, defective or recalled (DDR); and (v) repurposing into secondary products. The workshop used a range of tools to methodically work through the risks and unknowns, representing the most challenging areas for developing a NSW Lithium Battery Recycling Guideline.
