This paper approaches the 2004 Redfern ‘riots’ a performance event that is both indicative of, and constituted through, specific socio-historical formations. Central to the discussion are issues relating to the intersection of agency, the politics of space and he mediatised representation of the ‘riots’. As a core narrative, the paper explore how these media representations construct the ‘criminal’ body in the context of the ‘riots’, and how a piece of street graffiti can be read as a liminal enactment of memorialisation and the search for agency.en
