School of Civil Engineering: Recent submissions

    • Probabilistic Assessment of Support Scaffold Systems (No. R911)

Chandrangsu, Tayakorn; Rasmussen, Kim J.R.; Zhang, Hao
      Published 2010
This research report presents comprehensive studies of the effects of uncertainties in material properties, initial geometric imperfections and joint stiffness on the ultimate system strength of multi-storey steel support ...

    • Distortional Buckling of Overhanging Monorails (No. R906)

      Trahair, Nicholas S.
      Published 2009
This paper is concerned with the elastic lateral-distortional (LD) buckling of overhanging steel monorail I-beams and its influence on their design strengths. Distortion of a slender web reduces the elastic buckling ...

    • Numerical Simulation of High Strength Cold-Formed Purlins in Combined Bending and Shear (No. R904)

Pham, Cao H.; Hancock, Gregory J.
      Published 2009
The report provides numerical non-linear simulation, based on the finite element method (FEM) using the software package ABAQUS/Standard, of high strength C-section cold-formed steel purlins in shear and combined bending ...

    • Formulation and implementation of three-dimensional doubly symmetric beam-column analyses with warping effects in OpenSees (No. R917)

Zhang, Xi; Rasmussen, Kim J.R.; Zhang, Hao
      Published 2011
OpenSees is an object-oriented framework for finite element analysis. A key feature of OpenSees is the ability to integrate existing libraries and new components into the framework without the need to change the existing ...

    • Tension field action for cold-formed sections in shear (No. R918)

Pham, Cao H.; Hancock, Gregory J.
      Published 2011
For shear, the design of sections for strength is usually governed by the web plate subjected to shear force and undergoing shear buckling, or yielding in shear or a combination of the two. For webs with relatively high ...
