dc.description.abstract[Spain, ca. 1535-1540] This responsorial contains a remarkable depiction of an American turkey, one of the earliest extant illustrations of American fauna to appear in Europe and certainly the earliest illustration of a turkey. The illustration appears on the verso of the first leaf as part of the border, on the lower left corner. The manuscript contains the responses for feasts, starting with Christmas, which appears on the same leaf as the turkey illustration. It also contains those for the Feast of the Crown of Thorns, a feast mainly celebrated in Spain for which there are few surviving manuscripts.en_AU
