In an age where 3D cinema and blockbuster films are shown at multiplex cinemas, the independent filmmaker and enthusiasts are lost in a sea of Hollywood stars and big budgets. This building encourages budding film directors and crew to work on small production films. This self contained film studio provides the majority of the film making equipment and space needed to make a film. These facilities include studios, make up, costumes, lighting, cameras, down to editing suites, dressing rooms and meeting rooms. A large workshop on site also allows for sets and props to be designed, planned, and built, on site. The ground floor single screen cinema allows for the films made on site to be screened for public viewing. This allows exposure of films not normally seen by a wide audience. This also includes the showing of other ‘art house’ and ‘indie films’. The cinema reaches out to the community by showing documentary type films, made in New York. With New York being such a big and bustling place this provides an insight into what else is happening in the city. The cinema creates a social hub for people, while providing entertainment at an affordable price.
