The expanding Jerusalem seeds and spices market allow visitors and residents to wander atop the city’s rooftops, buying and selling goods while examining the city itself on a scenic boardwalk. The market is accessed from ground level via stairs incrusted into the sides of existing buildings or via lifts reaching down into courtyards. The journey to the marketplace itself is one of discovery and adventure. The shape of the market responds to the existing architecture of this block as it follows the contours of its surroundings. People can hop off the boardwalk onto rooftops, exploring the markets from all angles. Attachable market stalls can be placed between pre-existing walls along the board¬walk as the market continues to grow. These market stalls are designed specifically to the vendor’s desire. This market aims to counteract common sentiments of claustrophobia, a cramped atmosphere and the hidden nature of regular markets. It is open, exposed to the elements and allows light to pass through it.en
