The concept behind my hotel covers one primary theme; carving a sculpture. This concept is derived from admiring the works of mvrdv’s rodovre skyvillage. Initially it may seem completely different in concept and execution, however this notion inspired me to approach my design in a similar way. By layering the basic elements such as walls and floors, i simply took ‘chunks’ of space from the facade of the building to create pockets that can be utilised as balconies. In taking this approach to my design i was still keeping with the basic elements of design whilst taking on a different approach in reflecting the current trends within amsterdam. My choice of materials enhances the simplicity of my concept by defining these spaces to be visible from different angles. The south facing balconies and windows have been alocated glasss to make most of the views, whilst still providing privacy to the east and west facing windows by using frosted glass. All these elements work together to create a modernised piece of architecture in the heart of Amsterdam.en_AU
