Abstract

Placed in the city of Jerusalem the Hideout is a shelter for those in need of one. Being in a city that is continuously destructed a place to hide would be needed at certain times. The building is used and disguised as an art school. Art is an expression of unsaid words; a way to express what hides within. The real meanings cannot be proven cannot be expressed. The Hideout is planned as a maze with an irregular path around the building. Each floor has different circulation and placement of rooms; not to be solved by intruders. The building does not allow a direct access to the higher levels but rather takes the guest through the maze. The interior spaces are made up of irregular curves. The sweeping shapes hide secret walls and door. Confusing for those who are not familiar with the building; buying time and creating spaces for the regulars to hide. The exterior space is built with minimal windows, controlling what is seen from the outside. It is clad with many seperate layers which emphasise and elaborate on the story of the Hideout.
