See moreTokyo is a city which is a melting pot of western and eastern culture. Furthermore, it is a combination of traditon and modern fashion and technology. For the design project, my concept through the whole process is to give my design real Tokyo characteristics and use the modern architecture design to change the face of traditonally functional building. Therefore, I added many local elements in my design: 1. Subway station, plaza, and small residential house for the massing model to show the busy but unique Tokyo city. 2. Buddism temple as my function of design buldings is really connected with Japanese people's life. It creates a different space for people to think about the life and the time. In this project, I tried to design a place where people can enjoy the baptism of soul in a limited space in Tokyo. Therefore, the configuration of the plan of each seperated part is essential not only for saving space but creating more space to have garden and courtyard. This temple is composed of six parts which are respectively main hall, columbarium, tea house, living area for monks, sand garden and courtyard. Gardens are important elements in this design because they connect different components together as an integration and create the public and private space for different occupants. In this Buddism temple, people can experience a very different journey in such a small space, from worship, memorising, to relax and enjoy. The façade and material of different buildings expresses their own function and characteristics and they create so different light effect for the interior environment which are good for worship and memorising activities. In a word, this project is a different religious space which is modern but traditional, where you can temporarily forget about your real life and talk to the Budda in your heart.
