See moreThe quarter city which my model located in is Bern, the capital of Switzerland, in the bottom of the entire. Due to the Swiss Banking Act of 1934, the principle of bank secrecy is sometimes considered one of the main aspects of private banking, led to the famous Swiss bank. So this semester’s work is concerned about the bank in Bern. The building locates near an intersection of a busy road, due to the characters of the neighborhood building, the function of that building should be financing --- bank. The height of the design is 4 floors, the medieval style which accord with Bern’s architectural style. The idea of the design comes from the money box, which have the most traditional exterior and the interior is composed by circle, like the coin in the money box. In addition, the main entrance and the top of the building are consisted with each other follows the shape of the drop in in the money box, represents the wealthy and fortune come in. The main material used in the bank building is concrete, which gives a sense of stability. Other materials like frosted glass and stainless steel (waterproofing) are used in the window and roof. As related to the enclosure of the model, balsa is used to represents the concrete; transparent paper and tracing paper are employed to show the material of different kinds of glass. Not only the exterior design but also the design of interior is interesting. When designing the plan of the bank, the planning of the customer space and the staff area is significant. The relationship among the circulation system, the working area and the counter would provide convenience for both the staff and the customer. In the design process, you are not only a designer but also a user.
