DESA1002 'Nine Quarter City' - <Lulu Liao>

Abstract

My building is a language school in Jerusalem, with a similar shape to triangle. So after I researched some information about Jerusalem, I found out the languages there been used mainly can be classified into 3, so the original shapes of my building was formed just like the tulips, with three pieces of arch covered three sides, going to unite at the top. And each arch represents a language, which goes to different directions. Then by continuing the research, the idea became more and more independent, including the history and culture from the past. Then materials help to enlighten the idea. Modem material-the bending glass and stainless steels work with the traditional material-Jerusalem’s stone. This increase a strong conflict, however as they unite, it seems the future and the past in some way might have a very strong relationship, and in fact it is. And comes to the final concept- the yawn shape. I have to mention first: a yawn is not because you are tired but because your body wants you to save the energy, to go further-that is what from my understanding. The shape extends from the angle, pulling the building it self to the back-assume there is a back of the building whilst keeping touch the sky. Just like a yawn, stretching. and with a name---the yawn of silence
