dc.description.abstract | Published on July 1, 2022 by Sydney University Press, 'Quit Smoking Weapons of Mass Distraction' is a critical account of the ways that commercial interests in the pharmaceutical and vaping industries, as well as sections of the psychology, clinical medicine and public health professions have medicalised the process of quitting smoking since the late 1970s. Despite the large majority of ex-smokers having quit unassisted, cold-turkey cessation has been denigrated by these interest groups.
