See moreIn January 2003, a blue ribbon panel appointed by the National Science Foundation and led by Dan Atkins, of the University of Michigan, completed a report called ‘Revolutionising Science and Engineering through Cyberinfrastructure’.2 This report is a kind of provocation for the American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) Commission on Cyberinfrastructure for the Humanities and Social Sciences, and there is a lot of other activity of this sort, going on right now —for example: Digital Archiving and the National Archives and Records Administration;3 NSF ‘Post Digital Library Futures’ report;4 NRC ‘Beyond Productivity’ report (2003);5 The United Nations World Summit on the Information Society.6
