| Abstract: | Is it possible to design neighbourhoods to prevent and reduce crime? This seminar will explore this question with reference to contemporary developments in New South Wales and other jurisdictions. The seminar will be of interest to planners, police, local government personnel, crime prevention practitioners and architects. There has been much debate and commentary regarding crime in housing estates in recent years. Reports of problematic estates have regularly received media coverage. This coverage often fails to acknowledge the work that is happening in these areas to reduce and prevent crime. This seminar will bring together an exciting group of academics, policy makers and people planning and managing large housing estates and will explore contemporary practices and policies aimed at achieving crime free housing. |
