The functional integral formulation of finite temperature field theory and its connection to statistical mechanics is reviewed. The one loop contributions to quantum electrodynamics at finite temperature are explicitly calculated. Dyson-Schwinger equations for quantum electrodynamics at finite temperature are constructed and possible methods of solving them are discussed. The functional integral formulation of finite temperature field theory and its connection to statistical mechanics is reviewed.
